Roses And Raspberries

Roses header

A few people have responded after my posting asking if the readers of Dumelang! thought that this town of ours needs a forum on which people could report good, or bad service perceived and received. So, I have resolved to go ahead with it. You know what a rose is, you’d give someone a rose if you wanted to show appreciation to them. A raspberry is the loud, rude noise made by doing as the yellow face is, and blowing, to show your displeasure. Which would you rather have?

******************************************

And now …… A rose

Roses

Uncle Brian I’d like to give another big bunch of roses to Margie from van Staden Vervoer. Once again she did something that borders on heroic. An elderly gentleman came in asking for a sheepskin to prevent his 71 year old wife from developing bedsores after breaking her pelvis. I could find one in Louis Thrichardt but to get it here posed a huge problem, also getting the money to the seller. Margie arranged everything in the wink of an eye and did not want to charge the man for delivery. Margie, your service is excellent and your heart pure gold. Many thanks, also for arranging for courier services from the Cape to Musina in 24 hours! NOW THAT IS SERVICE!!!!!!

Hi Uncle Brian
I would like to give a semi raspberry, let’s say a raspberry seed if you must, to Foodzone Musina with regards to their parking also known as toilet area! We are fond of doing our daily shopping @ Foodzone and I know uncle Mannie is always open to any suggestions or complaints, hence the semi raspberry, but could Foodzone management please, please make a plan with the number of loiterers sitting outside their shop, eating and leaving their empty food and left overs all over the walking area and entrance to the shop.

Another very sorry sight for sore eyes for sure is the parking area, it really needs some upgrades done and a strong force to get rid of the loiterers doing their business right there in the parking area, against the walls, taxis, poles or anything that stands still long enough. Its really, to say the least, way past disgusting. We do not need our children or ourselves exposed to any person feeling the urge to “relieve some fluids” when youre sitting in the car waiting or on your way to the shop. Its always reeking of urine smells and puts a very unnecessary bad light upon Foodzone itself. Please assist to make it a pleasurable shopping experience for us all. Your understanding would be greatly appreciated. xxx Lindi

Red roseA raspberry gets a rose. Engela has reported back that KWIKSPAR has replaced the merchandise and apologised, saying that it won’t happen again. Well done, KWIKSPAR management for a speedy response.

Dumelang! to the rescue!

Raspberry 1This raspberry received from Engela Gerner, for KWIKSPAR. Kwikspar
KWIKSPAR management, would you like to respond?
I bought chicken sosaties yesterday from Kwikspar but as i opedned the pack it was rotten as could be. this is not the first time that this is happend. they will manke the people very sick if they carry on like this. and the lady from the butchery just said i need to put them in a fridge right away . that also is not suppose to be. they cant be rotten so quick.

Raspberry 1Raspberry 1

Raspberry 1A well-deserved raspberry, this, with pictures nogal. Not a very good advertisement for Mphe Maphego Security to show so little respect and concern for others;

Hi uncle Brian,

This happened last night when this vehicle obstructed the exit road in our parking area. At first we thought there was a problem at Kwikspar so Frikkie went inside to ask the driver or someone of the company to please move the vehicle so that the cars that was now backing up can exit the parking area (there was ample parking space available) but the driver was not there. I decided to take a picture and while doing so the driver of the vehicle came exiting Tops and put his purchases in the vehicle. I asked his why he cannot park on a proper parking as he was obstructing the flow and he came of with: “What is your problem, why are you arguing?”

Usually I would let it slide but I think it’s because we let things like this slide that these people get away with doing this. Because he is of a “security company” he can park how, when and where he wants? People we are looking up to enforce law now cannot even follow something as simple as parking on a designated parking? Click twice on the pics to enlarge them.

Many thanks,

Connie

Raspberry 1So, What, Exactly, Did They Expect? The statement below by the Workers Association Union illustrates perfectly how little they understand of the realities of commerce and the ramifications of their actions. While commiserating with those who are going to lose their jobs, it is those very workers who stood behind the unions for 5 months, while South Africa’s commerce and reputation to the world went down the tubes. A really hollow victory, methinks.

Anglo American Platinum’s plan to sell some of its mines will lead to job losses, the Workers’ Association Union (WAU) warned on Tuesday.

“We are deeply shocked and saddened by the announcement. This will lead to job losses,” said general secretary Elifas Ngoepe.
He said the announcement came at a time when mineworkers were trying to recover from the five-month strike.

“This will have a devastating effect on workers who are trying to find their footing after the strike and now they face the possibility of losing their jobs.”
Amplats announced on Monday that it planned to sell its Rustenburg and Union mines.”

Hi uncle Brian,

I’d like to give two bunches of roses today. Firstly to Ezette for printing our short holiday photo’s in record time and at a great price, now that is GREAT service!!! Thumbs up for Ezette Photography.

Roses

Second bunch of flowers is to all the people of Musina who give their time, their efforts and their love to other people in Musina. Some of those people I can name like Joy Delport, Brian & Dil Kalshoven, Mariaan Leask, Deon Botha, Kevin, Harry Smith and then there are those who stay in the background (and think we don’t know about the goodwill they spread anonymously).  We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Red roseI have a rose of my own, in addition to a couple of raspberries;

I need water to sell, in 330ml bottles, from a vending machine. First, the raspberries; I approached Oasis and Calabash and asked if they stock, or could get, 330ml bottles of water. In both cases, the answer was a flat no, sorry.

I then approached Irene van der Bank, having seen a FaceBook post about one of her ventures, Revive Water. She couldn’t have been more accommodating. No, she said, she doesn’t have stock of 330ml bottles, but would shop around to see about getting them. She got back to me in short order to say that she had located some, at X price, but was going to Jo’burg soon and would see about getting them cheaper at Y. She also offered to get personalised labels made for the bottles. Within ten days, the bottles are filled, packed up and ready for collection from her shop, which is, incidentally, in the N1 Business Centre, just past the second traffic circle by the Plaza, going North.

If that’s not service worthy of a rose, I don’t know what is. Thanks, Irene. To the other two, sorry, here’s a raspberry for you;  Raspberry 1

Red rose horstead@telkomsa.net

A rose to Northern Auto Electrical.

The alarm on my bakkie packed up on the weekend, Northern sorted it out on Monday at a very reasonable price. A very fast and efficient service.

Once again I would like to send Clicks Musina a huge bunch of roses. Especially to Petro Balayi, Receiving Clerk and Anah Malebana, Service Advisor. I couldn’t get my sugar substitute pills – Clicks are the only ones who stock the brand I use. I asked Petro when they would get them in again. He took my name and number and said he would order them. I thought well that’s the end of that! On Friday afternoon Petro phoned me to tell me they were in store. When I got there he had a box behind the till for me. SERVICE!!! Once again the other stores in Musina can take lessons from the staff in Clicks!
Thanks again to both Petro and Annah. Friendly, helpful staff are a treasure!

Question: At which Stationers would you expect to not find a simple General Ledger?
Answer: Musina Stationers of course – or as they call themselves Musina Stationary.

A raspberry for the SAPS bus that collects members from extension 4 in the mornings just before 05h30. The bus has only one working headlight, no working tail lights, and I have yet to see it stop at any stop streets. This is not a good example to set the general public. The SAPS should lead by example.

Red roseI would like to offer an apology to Glasfit Musina. It seems that there were a couple of reasons for this delay that I complained about last week. The gentleman that I spoke to gave me a number to contact should I have queries and there were two numbers reversed. Not sure if the numbers were given that way or the fault was mine in writing it down. That is why there was always an engaged tone when I tried to call. (9 times)
I finally got the number from the website and spoke to Marie. She says she left a voice mail for me on 20 May. I did not receive it but have no reason to doubt her.
All has now been arranged and sorted out, so a rose as an apology to Glasfit. Maybe the raspberry should go to me.

Very gracious of you, Jim.

080508-124012-109007I sent in an insurance claim on 30 April for the cracked windscreen on my wife’s car. All the details of the windscreen were given. May 12 Glasfit in Musina calls me to get all the details for the windscreen again. Today 21 May they still have not called to say it is ready. So for Glasfit Musina, a massive raspberry. Out of insurance I would never use them again. Unfortunatly they are the only ones who will do the insurance claim, which is probably why their service is so poor. Another few days and I will get the windscreen replaced at my cost and cancel the insurance stating that the service provider the company uses are useless. I already have another good quote from another insurance company. Jim Horstead

Another, bigger raspberry for M.R. I refuse to be drawn in to any more pointless sms’s as you always promise payment, then follow up with excuses and then you never make payment. The facts of the matter are:
1) You came to Party Planet on 30th January and begged to be allowed to take goodies for your sister’s 21st and you promised to do an eft by “no later than Saturday.”
2) Stupidly I agreed.
3) On 1st February you sms’d to say you are delayed by rainstorms but will do a bank transfer as soon as you get to Potch.
4) No payment was made and then your mother was supposed to come in and pay me on Saturday 8th February.
On 11th February you promised to pay “by latest Friday.” i.e. Friday 14th.
5) On that date you said you were coming in, then later said you had been to apply for a loan.
6) On 19th February you stated that the loan was paid into your account and you would come in at 17h00 on 20th and swipe your card..
7) On 20th I sent you an sms to say you had 2 more chances to pay – the 21st and the 22nd.
8) On 21st you said you will pay me on 22nd when you are back from Polokwane.
9) Then followed a series of sms’s saying you would call me when you are 10 minutes from Musina, then a deathly silence, followed by an sms that you stayed the night in Louis Trichardt, followed by a final deathly silence.
I will no longer respond to your messages, am just going to hand this over now for collection. You have had many chances and failed to keep any of your promises. DTK.

A raspberry to Megan Robertson. Megan you came to my shop on Thursday 30th January imploring me to allow you to take goodies for your sister’s 21st birthday. You promised me, most sincerely, that money was coming in to your bank account and I would be paid by Saturday 1st February. Foolishly I believed you and let you take goods for R750.00 and waited expectantly for payment. Payment has still not been made and you have given me a real run around trying to get this money. Shame on you Megan, I wonder if you intended to let me down from the beginning. You have never even returned the costume you “hired” which would reduce the amount you owe.

Dilveen at Party Planet.

Sadly another raspberry to a Musina company that advertises but does not respond. AAPrinting Supplies, requested info and prices from them and no reply at all. Message left on FaceBook and on their advertised e-mail. No reply on their advertised phone number either. Why advertise and not reply?????

    Hi uncle Brian,

Unfortunately I have a big fat raspberry for Nando’s in Musina. Standing in the queue waiting to place an order a guy comes walking through the door straight to the counter where other people just finished up (the cashier saw us waiting) but he decided to help this man anyway. I asked him why I was standing in the queue if this is the way they do business and suddenly he now wanted to help us??? It seems like you always have to complain to just get some type of service?? Seems most of the human race is moving backwards….

  11. Calabash Jul 23rd 2014

Replying for the raspberry to calabash about the 330ml bottles. There must have been a misunderstanding with the staff because we do not stock 330ml bottles however if one of the managers were contacted, numbers are on the door, we would of helped you with great pleasure.
